BSB rider Tom Sykes passes test

British Superbike (BSB) rider Tom Sykes has passed his motorbike test, meaning he can now ride legally on the roads - as long as he also takes out motorbike insurance.

The Rizla Suzuki racer has completed many miles of racing on the track on his GSX-R1000 Superbike, but did not have a road licence.

He completed the direct access motorbike test with Crescent Suzuki in Dorset and Maverick Training in Dorset.

Sykes may be used to doing speeds of up to 180mph during his racing weekends, but now has to stick to the national speed limit of 70mph on the roads.

He thanked his instructor after passing and commented: "He really looked after me and offered some proper training, giving me the confidence to ride on the road safely.

"It's a very different discipline to what I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it."

Sykes made his BSB debut last season and finished sixth, also picking up the accolade of Rookie of the Year.

In this year's championship he is third with 306 points, 18 behind second-place Leon Haslam.

The final race of the season takes place this weekend at Brand's Hatch, Kent, so any fans travelling to see the fight for second place come to a head will want to ensure their motorbike insurance policy is up to date.
