Norton back in the UK

Norton is back in British hands and plans to build a new "state of the art" road bike for next year, bike insurance customers might be interested to hear.

The name has been bought a UK-based business man, with a new factory planned at Donington Park, which is known as the home of British bike racing.

New owner Stuart Garner said: "This has been a challenging and exciting period for us and we now intend to focus on re-establishing Norton as a premier motorcycling brand across the world."

The motorbike firm plans to race and establish the Norton name around the globe with a clothing and spare parts range.

Norton's first bike, which consisted of a bicycle with a Belgian Clement engine, was produced in 1902.

Since then it has produced various models for motorbike insurance customers and enjoyed success at the Isle of Man TT.

Its recent model, the Commando 961 SS, features Ohlins front and rear suspension, Brembo rotors and calipers, a parallel twin engine and produces 80bhp at the rear wheel at 6,500rpm.

With a fuel tank capacity of 4.5 gallons, dry weight of 415lbs and seat height of 32 ins, it is available in black and with a two-year unlimited mileage warranty.
