YouTube biker behind bars

A motorcyclist who appeared on internet video site YouTube hitting speeds of 130mph on an Oxfordshire road has been jailed.

Twenty-eight-year-old biker Sandor Ferenci was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after uploading footage of himself performing stunts and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Judge Terence Maher described the man's behaviour on his Yamaha R6 bike as "lunatic and grossly irresponsible".

Mr Ferenci, who pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, was also issued with a two-year driving ban and Sergeant Bryan Smith, of Thames Valley Police, declared himself "satisfied" that the punishment was sufficient.

"This sentence should deter others who may be tempted to act in a similar way," he said.

He emphasised that public roads should not be treated as "a race track or show ground", adding that the man's actions were "incredibly dangerous" to other road users and motorbike insurance customers.

The incident is not the first of its kind, after a biker appeared on the same site doing 147mph on a Sussex dual carriageway earlier this year, while 37-year-old rider Jeremy Parrot also filmed himself driving at speeds of over 100mph in February 2007.
