Lessons in safety for young riders
Young riders in Derbyshire could help reduce the chance of injury and prevent additional costs on their bike insurance premiums by attending a safety awareness day held by the region's police force.
The event - to be held on Wednesday 29th October at Belper School - is designed to help bikers understand and avoid the dangers involved when riding mopeds and motorcycles.
Bikes and mopeds will be provided, with Shires Motorcycle Training offering instruction to young riders and experts on hand to advise on the importance of riding with adequate safety gear and full bike insurance.
PC Barry Bacon, of the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Team, stressed the importance of safety awareness for young road users.
"A lot of young people have a moped or a scooter to help them get around, but without the right knowledge, safety equipment and insurance, they can be a danger to themselves and others," he said.
The campaign follows a week in which one rider in Oxfordshire was jailed after appearing on video site YouTube performing stunts and hitting speeds of up to 130mph, with police keen to prevent other road users from imitating his behaviour.
