Two vehicles seized in police crackdown
Two motorbike insurance customers have had their vehicles seized as police began a crackdown on nuisance riders in Weymouth.
The mini motorcycles were impounded after members of the public complained about riders causing havoc around the streets and fields behind Littlemoor estate, reports the Dorset Echo.
PC Dave Harrison of Weymouth police said that the youths - aged 14 and 15 respectively - had been riding on roads without motorbike insurance.
The number of vehicles already seized or issued with a warning since April 1st in the Weymouth and Portland area now totals more than 100, and PC Harrison confirmed police intentions to deal with offenders in Littlemoor "robustly".
"People have been dealt with for using a vehicle while causing alarm, distress or annoyance and we will be using the same powers in respect of motorcyclists at Littlemoor," he said.
The problem had been raised as an issue of concern at a Littlemoor community meeting, prompting police to step up measures against illegal riders.
In a similar crackdown, a 14-year-old boy in Kidderminster was issued with an Anti Social Behaviour Disorder last week after terrorising residents in one neighbourhood.
Robert Kenneth Smith had already ignored a warning for riding mini-motorbikes illegally and had two seized by police, according to the Kidderminster Shuttle.
