New BMW bike on show in Milan

Bike insurance customers could be in a rush to upgrade their vehicle after BMW unveiled its sporty new Motorrad F 800 model at a motorcycle show in Milan.

The second BMW roadster to be launched this year, the Motorrad offers maximum riding enjoyment and comfort alongside great handling and agility at an expected on-the-road-price of less than £6,000.

Set to hit showrooms in May 2009, the F 800 R boasts a 798cc in-line two-cylinder engine that offers "strong pulling power and spontaneous reponse" as well as low fuel consumption.

Tony Jakeman, marketing manager at BMW Motorrad UK, said the bike represented the next step in BMW's line of medium category motorcycles.

"The F 800 R is a logical expansion of our F 800 series, adding an urban edge to our ever growing range of models," he explained.

Riders can customise their purchase with additional accessory parts including a sport windshield, radiator trim panels and an engine spoiler.

Buyers will also be quick to take out full bike insurance on the vehicle after a man in Ashurst had his £2,000 Yamaha R6 stolen when he ran out of petrol.

The motorcyclist left his bike for 20 minutes while he went to get fuel, only to find it missing when he returned, the West Sussex County Times reports.
