BikeSafe initiative to run in Devon
Motorcycle insurance customers in Devon are being urged to make sure they stay safe on the roads as part of a special BikeSafe session for motorcyclists.
The event is to be held on Sunday November 9th at the workplace of 55-year-old rider Gary Bidmead, who was killed in a road traffic collision in September.
Friends and colleagues have now organised the training - aimed at helping other bikers who commute to the Centrax factory in Newton Abbot - in his memory.
Mr Bidmead's widow, Ellie, said that deaths like her husband's had become "all to frequent" in the biking world.
"I am extremely glad that something is being done in the memory of my husband. It is a brilliant idea," she added.
Tony Wiltshire, Centrax director and general manager, insisted that the training would "be of great benefit" in helping to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Bikesafe is an initiative run by police forces around the UK to help reduce motorbike accidents and involves a combination of classroom-based and practical on-the-road sessions.
Ten bikers have died on roads in nearby Cornwall this year, with 23-year-old Christopher Dodd the latest victim, according to the Western Morning News.
The motorcyclist was killed in a collision last week, and police are continuing their investigations.
