Plymouth riders risk increased premiums
Motorcyclists in Plymouth risk potential rises in their motorcycle insurance policies after police set up mobile speed traps in the area.
The move followed complaints from residents over speeding motorists on a busy trunk road in the region that is regularly crossed by pedestrians and schoolchildren.
Police have since recorded the speeds of cars and motorbikes on the stretch in an attempt to increase safety on the roads, and PC Ian Tanner said that "a small minority" were driving with "no regard for the safety of others".
A spokesperson for the Safety Camera Partnership added that some had been clocked travelling at twice the legal limit, leaving "no alternative but prosecution".
As well as fixed penalty fines, riders in the region who do breach the speed limit can expect to see their motorcycle insurance premiums rise as a result of their offences.
Meanwhile, the danger of irresponsible motorbike use was highlighted in an incident in Dundee involving three 15-year-old riders.
An 11-year-old was hit by a car as he tried to avoid the bike - which was being driven by the trio on the pavement, according to the BBC.
A Tayside Police spokesman said it was only down to "good fortune" that the victim had escaped serious injury.
