Poignant road safety film to hit schools
A Pembrokeshire rider has relived the tragic death of his wife in order to try and help make the roads safer for other motorbike insurance customers, according to a source.
Mark Boulcott lost his wife Karen in a collision with a car driven by 21-year-old James Ward Douglas, who was later found to have consumed four bottles and 12 cans of beer before taking to the road, the Tenby News reports.
The couple were riding in pillion on Mr Boulcott's motorbike at the time and he was also left seriously injured, but he has agreed to relay his story in a short film to be screened by the Pembrokeshire Road Safety Forum.
Schools across the region will show the film in order to encourage teenage drivers to take responsibility on the roads, and Mr Boulcott hopes it will help avoid similar accidents in the future.
"Young people who find themselves in similar situations need to realise that they have a responsibility for overseeing their health and that of the driver of a car they might be a passenger in," he said.
Darren Thomas, who chairs the Pembrokeshire Road Safety Forum, said Mr Boulcott's poignant story added "huge weight" to the message and would help to "reach into the hearts and minds" of viewers.
The film is released as police in East Lancashire announced a new safety operation targeting "reckless" young drivers and motorcyclists on the region's roads.
