Biker offers support for road safety event
A motorcyclist who was left in a wheelchair after he was hit by a reckless driver has offered his support to a road safety campaign aimed at driving home the message to young road users.
Trevor Eakin is filmed talking about his life after the accident in a presentation that was shown to pupils from schools across Aberdeenshire as part of Safe Drive Stay Alive last week.
The film, aimed at shocking people into changing their attitude towards road safety, left a lasting impression on many of the young students who said that it would change their behaviour as a passenger or driver in future.
MP for Gordon, Malcolm Bruce, commended the police and emergency services for the powerful presentation.
"Every young person should see Safe Drive Stay Alive at least once and take it to heart," he insisted.
The film was shown after a recent increase in fatalities on roads in Aberdeenshire, and firefighters revealed that they are called to more road accidents than fires as they sought to drive home the need to take extra care.
Teenage bike insurance customers in Pembrokeshire will also be shown hard-hitting footage aimed at improving road safety after rider Mark Boulcott agreed to relive the accident that killed his wife Karen in a short film to be screened in schools in the area.
