Actor's bike up for grabs at UNICEF auction

Motorbike insurance customers may be scrambling to get their hands on a new vehicle after Ewan McGregor put one of his prized collectables up for sale.

The Scottish actor, a keen motorcyclist, has agreed to part with the bike in order to raise money for children's charity UNICEF.

It will now be auctioned off to the highest bidder on eBay, with all proceeds going to the charity to help fund aid and relief operations around the world.

Meanwhile, another face from the big screen has been reliving her motorbike-riding youth on the set of her latest production.

Helen Mirren is set to star in forthcoming children's adventure movie Inkheart, in which she plays an eccentric character who speeds around on a motorcycle.

And the actress told the Sunday Times that the bike ride was the deciding factor in her taking the part: "I thought, I don't care what else happens, I want to be on that motorbike again," she said.

She revealed that she had bought a motorbike in her early 20s because she thought it would be cool, cheap and affordable.

However, Ms Mirren admitted that she had experienced difficulties with the vehicle, particularly when stopping at lights.

"At every traffic light I would topple over. I had it for three or four months and thought, this is not working out," she conceded.
