Police laud mini-moto success
Telford Police have hailed the "positive improvement" in safe riding brought about by a mini-moto club for young motorcycle insurance customers.
The club, which has been meeting once a month for the last half a year, is aimed at educating riders under the age of 16.
Attendees must be accompanied by parents or guardians and kitted out in full safety gear and are also invited to participate in Sunday morning race days.
Community support officer Rob Hughes, who helped organise the Telford Bike Project, said he was certain that the scheme had helped improve riding habits.
"I firmly believe that anti-social behaviour would have been higher in Hadley and Leegomery especially had it not been for the opportunities this club has given young people," he commented.
He said that as well as rehabilitating those who had already been warned for riding the vehicles illegally, the initiative had helped many youths who would otherwise have had a "distinct" chance of ending up in trouble with the law.
Parents considering buying mini-motos for their children this Christmas were recently warned to make sure they knew the full legal implications and requirements behind owning the vehicles in a report by the South Yorkshire Star.
