Residents' warning to speeding bikers
Motorcycle insurance customers and motorists who continue to exceed the speed limit on a road in Wigan are being targeted by concerned residents.
According to the Blackpool Gazette, one campaigner has videoed cars and motorbikes travelling at up to three times the limit along Winstanley Road.
They are now calling for speed cameras or other deterrents to be deployed in the area to help cut down the number of accidents and slow down lawbreakers.
One campaigner, Patrick Prosser, has painted the sides of his van in a bid to get the message across to other road users, but he believes that cameras are the only way to help make the road safer for everyone.
"So many students walk down this road every day. It is only a matter of time before an accident happens where a speeding motorist loses control and ploughs into them, causing multiple fatalities," he warned.
Councillor Mike Winstanley reassured residents that he would continue to work towards resolving the problem and said he had asked the traffic management section to consider further options for cutting down speeding on the road.
The report comes after motorcyclists in Plymouth were targeted by police speed traps in response to similar concerns by residents in the area, according to the Plymouth Herald.
