Bikers to descend on Stoke-on-Trent

Thousands of motorcycle insurance customers are set to descend on the streets of Stoke-on-Trent as part of a traditional charity event.

The Star Bikers Toy Run will be held this Sunday, with riders expected to turn out in force to support the cause, which aims to help out underprivileged children.

According to the Sentinel, riders taking part will be asked to make a small donation, as well as contributing a toy of their choice.

Now in its 31st year, the parade will be led by the lord mayor of Stoke-on-Trent as motorbike enthusiasts file along the 14-mile route with the aid of a police escort.

Co-organiser Antony Middleton, of motorcycle club Star Bikers, welcomed all participants and spectators planning to attend the event, which he said was the oldest of its kind in the country.

"We will have refreshments, a free prize draw with donations from local bike shops, and a concert," he added.

In the past, more than 5,000 motorcyclists from throughout Staffordshire have taken part in the run, which leaves from Stoke City's Britannia Stadium.

A similar event will also be taking place in Peterborough, with the Rutland Chapter Harley Owners Group looking to attract bike riders from across the region to help bring festive cheer to children who are in hospital over Christmas.
