Actor's bike fetches £22,000
One lucky motorcycle insurance company has walked away with a rare vehicle previously owned by Scottish actor Ewan McGregor.
The Trainspotting star, who hails from Crieff, Perthshire, agreed to auction off his Moto Guzzi California Vintage bike on internet bidding site eBay in order to raise funds for children's charity Unicef.
According to the BBC, the top bidder paid out just over £22,000 to become the new owner of the motorcycle, which was one of the actor's favourites.
Indeed, Mr McGregor, who is an ambassador for Unicef, had ridden the machine all the way from the factory where it was produced in Italy to his London home.
Fiona Hesselden, a spokesperson for the charity, said: "Unicef would like to thank Ewan McGregor for auctioning his much-loved motorbike, which has raised the sizeable sum of £22,100 for our work with children globally."
The money will help support Unicef's work with children in countries such as Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo, she added.
Despite the success of the auction, motorbike sellers were warned about the dangers of using classified advertisement or social networking sites to market their vehicles to potential sellers.
Tayside Police stated that giving away too many details about their bikes over the internet could increase the risk of having them stolen.
