Bikers warned against icy conditions
Riders across south Worcestershire are being reminded to take extra care on the roads this winter in order to avoid a claim on their motorcycle insurance.
With road conditions becoming increasingly difficult during the recent cold snap, bikers could face an increased risk of accidents and collisions.
In order to ensure their safety on the roads, drivers and motorcyclists are now being urged by police to adapt their driving to suit the conditions.
This involves showing greater consideration to other road users and reducing their speed, as well as checking that their vehicles are safe and roadworthy.
Inspector Phil Worthington, head of south Worcestershire's vehicle response unit, said the bad weather had already seen an increase in road traffic collisions, some of which could have been avoided.
He advised motorists to carry out manoeuvres slowly and carefully, avoiding any harsh braking or acceleration, to reduce the chance of losing control of their vehicle.
"It is vital that motorists kill their speed when driving on icy roads so they don't end up killing themselves or others," Inspector Worthington added.
The caution comes after icy roads in Plymouth resulted in several minor crashes on the region's roads, one of which involved a motorcyclist, according to the Plymouth Herald.
