Police to get tough with off-road bikers

Police in south Wales will have "no hesitation" in seizing and crushing motorcycles in order to put an end to damage caused by off-road riders.

Officers declared that they will be using all the powers at their disposal to combat the problem, and warned that bike insurance customers who continue to commit offences will have their vehicles taken from them.

The threat comes after police discovered severe and "irreparable" damage to the landscape at Stalling Down, near Cowbridge.

Local residents have already reported riders of both mountain bikes and motorcycles for vehicle misuse, and South Wales Police are now making the issue a priority.

"Anyone we see using these vehicles in such a manner will be given a warning and if necessary their vehicles will be confiscated," said Police Constable Mark Goulding.

He appealed to the local community to help out by continuing to report incidents to police, and stressed that officers are working hard to put a stop to illegal riders.

This comes after plans were announced for a new off-road track to be developed for bikers in Northampton.

The track will be funded by the Northampton Safer Stronger Partnership, and is designed to tackle the anti-social use of motorbikes in the area.
