Residents seek action against nuisance bikers
Elderly residents in Wiltshire are calling for action to be taken against young motorcyclists who are causing havoc in the local community.
Motorcycle insurance customers regularly speed through Honeymead, a quiet cul-de-sac in Calne, leaving pensioners afraid to leave their homes.
The youths often mount the footpaths, and sometimes partake in their noisy and dangerous antics as early as 05:00 GMT and as late as midnight.
"We are all elderly people living here. If one of us came out of our gate and did not see a bike coming you never know what could happen," said Amenea Barnett, who lives in the road.
She called for something to be done by authorities before there is serious accident.
Police Constable Hans Monahan said the force is aware of the problem, but has so far been unable to identify or apprehend any of the youngsters involved.
He appealed for anyone who did have any information on the offenders to contact police in order to help make the streets and footpaths a safer place.
One resident on an estate in Northamptonshire was recently forced to leave her home because of nuisance bikers, claiming that no amount of police action had succeeded in putting an end to the trouble, according to the Northants Evening News.
