Young motorbike star set for TV debut
A young motocross star is appealing for funding to help him fulfil a dream that is no doubt shared by bike insurance customers across the UK.
Jonathan Dickson, a 20-year-old from Newsham in Blyth, is seeking the money required to finance a trip to the televised British Championships, the News Post Leader reports.
He believes the event could give him the opportunity he has been waiting for to showcase his talents and gain the attention of various motocross teams.
Since he first started road racing at the age of 14, Mr Dickson has been longing for such a chance.
He began his career on an old bike, but since updating his machine he has experienced a number of successes.
Having won the North East Championships and then taken first place at the Darley Moor Championships last year, he is now keen to test himself on live television.
"The Championships are a good place to get noticed to ride for a team, which is what I want to do provided I can get the funds," he told the newspaper.
The young rider first developed his enthusiasm for motorbikes after riding bicycles from an early age, and a number of children appear to be following in his footsteps.
Indeed, retail outlets across the UK have seen a sharp increase in the number of bikes and BMXs sold, in spite of the deepening financial crisis.
