Bikers warned over recent thefts
Riders in Northamptonshire are being urged to step up their security measures in order to avoid risking a claim on their motorcycle insurance policies.
Police have reported a spate of vehicle crime in the Wellingborough area, with a total of 24 offences taking place over the course of the last two weeks.
Thefts from motor vehicles have risen over the period, although they remain 13 per cent down on last year's figures. But as well as targeting four-wheeled vehicles, thieves have also been paying particular attention to small scooters and other motorcycles, officers have revealed.
These have often been taken from gardens and sheds that have been left insecure and officers are keen to remind motorbike owners of the need to keep their vehicles safe.
"People should always lock up their sheds and make sure nothing of value is left unattended in their gardens," said Wellingborough Inspector Pete Chisholm.
The offences have occurred all over the town and in surrounding villages, with police identifying Castle Ward as the main hotspot for motorcycle thieves.
Earlier this month, the Daventry Express reported on a teenager in the area who was offering a £200 reward for the return of his bike, which was stolen from outside his home in Stefen Hill, Daventry.
