Bikers to stage road safety protest
Safety-conscious motorcyclists in Hampshire are planning to stage a demonstration about the condition of a major road in the county.
Local riders feel that the current traffic regulations on a stretch of the A326 are insufficient to keep them safe, reports the Daily Echo.
Three bikers have been killed on the road in recent months and the Southampton Motorcycle Action Group (SMAG) wants the authorities to act in order to ensure more lives are not lost.
SMAG members will gather on the A326 on the morning of January 23rd before riding en masse to the Winchester offices of Hampshire county council in order to register their protest about what they view as a worrying lack of road safety measures.
Maggie Gwynne, one of the protest ride's organisers, told the newspaper: "We are doing this on behalf of the families and friends of the victims - this is a high-visibility way of delivering our message."
She added: "We have to make sure that something comes out of these unfortunate deaths last year."
SMAG wants to see a number of traffic safety measures introduced on the road, including a new roundabout, flashing speed awareness signs and changes to a problematic junction to make it left-turn only.
Motorcycle insurance customers who wish to add their support to the campaign can sign an online petition on the group's website.
